DeVeaux School Collection
Scope and Contents
Over 70 boxes of items from The DeVeaux School from its earliest years (including the purchase of land) to its closing, as well as some later historical accounts. The record group contains: yearbooks, student newspapers, deeds, Episcopal Church materials, alumni information, financial information, photographs and artifacts.

Biographical / Historical
DeVeaux College was deeded by Judge Samuel DeVeaux in 1853. Construction began on Van Rensselaer Hall in 1855.
The school was originally developed as a boys school for orphaned and homeless boys. The focus of their education was on training for industry and trades in addition to a social and religious education. Course work included mandatory military training.
The Episcopal Diocese ceased operations at the school in 1971.
