Schoellkopf
Jacob Schoellkopf bought land from Horace H. Day on May 1, 1877 for "$71,000 plus $5,000 extra" (Niagara Portage). He advertised mill sites along the canal.
By 1882, Schoellkopf had built a small power house at the end of the canal and installed a small generator. There were seven mills along the high bank all producing power from the hydrolic canal in 1882. (www.niagarafrontier.com).
